The Elderly Care System is a digital display platform designed for elderly individuals, especially those with cognitive decline or memory loss. It displays important information on a TV screen in a simple, easy-to-read format including messages from family, reminders, calendar events, and the current date/time.
What devices are supported?
The system works on any modern web browser including:
- Smart TVs: Fire TV, Roku TV, Samsung Smart TV, LG webOS, and other smart TV browsers
- Tablets: iPad, Android tablets, Fire tablets
- Computers: Desktop or laptop connected to a TV via HDMI
- Mobile phones: For family members to submit messages and manage the account
How do I set up the TV display?
After creating your account:
- Log in to your portal
- Copy your unique presentation URL
- Open that URL in your TV's web browser
- Optionally set up security (PIN, IP lock, or image challenge)
- The display will refresh automatically with new content
Can family members share photos and messages?
Yes! Family members can submit messages, photos, and short videos through the submission page. You'll receive a unique submission link to share with family. All submissions can be moderated before appearing on the TV display if you enable that option.
What types of content can be displayed?
You can display the following cards on your presentation screen:
- Messages: Text messages, photos, and videos from family
- Date & Time: Always-visible clock and calendar
- Calendar & Reminders: Doctor appointments, medication times, family visits
- Weather: Local weather conditions
- Custom greeting: Personalized message with the person's name
- YouTube Videos/Playlists: Embed YouTube videos or playlists for entertainment
Can I integrate with Google Calendar or other calendars?
Yes! The system supports:
- Google Calendar: Full OAuth2 integration to sync events automatically
- ICS/iCal files: Upload calendar files from Apple Calendar, Outlook, or any calendar app
- Manual entry: Add events directly in the portal
Events sync automatically and display reminders on the TV screen.
How do I manage calendar events and reminders?
From your portal dashboard, click "Manage calendar" to:
- Add doctor appointments, medication reminders, and other events
- Categorize events (doctor visits, medications, family visits, etc.)
- Sync with external calendars via the Integrations page
- View and delete upcoming events
How do I moderate family submissions?
In your portal, click "Go to moderation" to:
- Review all submitted messages, photos, and videos
- Approve submissions to display on the TV
- Delete inappropriate or unwanted content
- Enable automatic approval if you trust all contributors
What security options are available?
To prevent unauthorized access to the TV display, you can enable:
- PIN protection: Require a numeric PIN to access the display
- IP address lock: Restrict access to specific IP addresses (e.g., home network only)
- Image challenge: Select 4 images in the correct sequence to gain access
- Q&A challenge: Answer a simple question before viewing
Configure these options in Presentation Configuration from your portal.
Can I have multiple TV screens?
Yes! Each account can manage up to 5 presentation screens, each with its own unique URL and configuration. This is useful for multiple rooms or multiple family members.
How do I invite other family members to help manage the account?
The system supports three user roles:
- Family Admin: Full access including billing and all configuration
- Power User: Can configure screens and moderate messages
- Contributor: Can only submit messages, photos, and videos
Invite family members from the Account Settings page.
What file types are supported for photos and videos?
Supported formats:
- Images: JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, HEIC (automatically converted)
- Videos: MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM (automatically optimized for web)
Files are automatically converted to web-friendly formats and stored securely in Google Cloud Storage.
Is there a mobile app?
The system is web-based and works great on mobile browsers. Simply visit the website on your phone to submit messages or manage your account. No app installation required!
How much does it cost?
Pricing information is available on our main page or contact us for subscription details. We offer flexible payment options through Stripe.
Where is my data stored?
All data is securely stored on Google Cloud Platform, including:
- Database hosted on Google Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL)
- Photos and videos stored in Google Cloud Storage
- Application running on Google Cloud Run
- Automatic backups and enterprise-grade security
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can manage your subscription and billing through the Billing Portal link in your account dashboard. Cancel anytime with no long-term commitment.
Do I need technical skills to set this up?
No! The system is designed to be simple and user-friendly. If you can open a web browser on your TV and copy/paste a link, you can set it up. Our help section and support team are available if you need assistance.
Will the display work without internet?
No, an active internet connection is required for the TV display to show updated content from family members and synced calendars. The system refreshes automatically when new content is available.
